ith Winter well and truly setting in, we look back at a great few weeks at the Tattersalls October yearling sales. The anxiousness leading up to the sales was a mutual feeling held by consignors due to obvious Covid-19 restriction concerns, but it was a welcome sight when the leading buyers and familiar faces preceded to battle it out in the ring for Europe’s most sought after bloodstock.

Goldolphin were major players during Book 1, purchasing a total of 22 yearlings at the sale and securing three horses from our draft. Notably our top lot, a quality colt owned by Lordship Stud who fetched 680,000gns. A son of Sea The Stars, and the first foal out of the black type mare Smoulder – herself a half sister to Champion three-year-old filly Legatissimo.

Earlier in the sale, Goldolphin went to 475,000gns to acquire the quality colt out of Bjorn Nielsen’s mare Lombatina, who has already produced listed winning Agrotera. This colt is by the leading young stallion Kingman, who proved to be extremely popular during the sales.

The well documented first foal of Alan Spence’s G2 Temple Stakes winning mare Priceless proved to be in high demand at the sale. This chesnut filly was very typical of her sire, Dubawi and looked to have all the attributes of a high class sprinter. The hammer fell at 420,000gns to Godolphin.

The sales’ strength and demand continued at Book 2, which led to extending consistent prices. The powerful son of Australia owned by Stonethorn Stud Farm, sold to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 115,000gns. He is out of the Listed placed mare Glenmayne, herself a half sister to Champion two-year-old filly Millisle.

Thank you to all purchasers and we wish the very best of luck to each and every one of our yearlings. We are looking forward to seeing them all at the racecourse in due course.

We are delighted to welcome home, Stonethorn Stud Farms’ Champion filly, Millisle. She has now returned to Kiltinan Castle in Ireland to embark on her new career as a broodmare and will be visiting perennial Champion sire Galileo for 2021. The three-year-old filly, by Starspangledbanner, had a glittering career with wins at the highest level at two and three years of age. After winning on debut under hands and heels, her career went from strength to strength. As a two-year-old she won at G1 level, culminating in a brilliant victory in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. She was subsequently crowned Champion two-year-old filly in Europe, before going on to win at G3 level at three.

Looking ahead, we will now be turning our attention across our social media platforms to the Mare and Foal sales at Tattersalls. Photos and videos of our drafts will be available to view on our website over the next couple of weeks. The foals are selling from 25th – 28th November and the mares follow shortly after from 30th November – 3rd December.
