A

glorious end to July with STRADIVARIUS stealing the limelight once again, as he makes history by adding a fourth Goodwood cup to his collection, for delighted owner Bjorn Nielsen. Stradivarius showed the grit and determination of a true champion in a memorable race where he was short of space and carried an extra 15lb on Irish Derby winner Santiago. Trainer John Gosden said “Stradivarius looked like he was boxed in. It was a great performance under that weight. It was a big ask and he has a big heart,” and went on to confirm that the next aim will be the Prix Foy before heading to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The much-anticipated debut of DARAIN (Dubawi) was worth the wait. The three-year-old son of Dar Re Mi and full-brother to TOO DARN HOT sold for 3.5 million guineas at Tattersalls Book 1 in 2018 and has had racing fans around the world in discussion leading up to his first start on 8th July at Newbury. He made a big impression when he went on to win by 4 ¾ lengths under Oisin Murphy over 1m2f, beating some classy juveniles and earning himself the title of TDN’s rising star.

Just over two weeks later, with a 7lb penalty, he made a second appearance, this time at Newmarket and won comfortably. John Gosden commented, ‘he would have learnt a lot and Oisin said he won comfortably. We will see what the mark is and take it from there. He is a progressive horse, but he has still got a lot to learn about being a racing professional.’

Tattersalls book one purchase ICE EAGLE broke her maiden on just the second time of asking at Redcar on 27th July. The three-year-old filly, by Free Eagle is trained by Ed Walker and owned in partnership with Andrew Rosen. Ice Eagle pulled clear from her rivals well in the last furlong, finishing 4 ¼ lengths ahead of the thirteen-strong field.

The four-year-old filly ROYAL INTERVENTION (Exceed And Excel) will be retired to stud after a worthy career with trainer Ed Walker. Unfortunately, she sustained a career-ending injury during her last race at York earlier this month. Royal Intervention, jointly owned by Mr Farish, will be a welcome addition to the farm’s star-studded broodmare band, with notable success at G2 and G3 level and totting up over £130,000 in prize money.

This time of year, the hard work begins again, the holidays are over for the yearlings as they begin sales preparation and the older of the foals are weaned from their dams. There will be a top-class draft of around twenty yearlings heading to the Tattersalls October sales and will be showing you snippets of them throughout the next few months on our social media platforms.
