oo Darn Hot gained a second successive Group 1 when taking the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this afternoon.

After losing his unbeaten record earlier this season, Too Darn Hot returned to the top-level winners’ enclosure last time out when dropped back to seven furlongs for the Prix Jean Prat.

Back up to a mile, jockey Frankie Dettori tracked the leaders before showing his trademark turn of foot with two furlongs to run.

His Ascot conqueror Circus Maximus had got first run but Too Darn Hot always had that rival in his sights and quickened to the lead inside the final furlong before going on to win cosily by half a length.

Trainer John Gosden said: “He is an all-out speed horse. They went an even pace – nothing mad – but he was full of running and luckily the gaps came.”

“I have put him in sprints and a flat, easy mile is ok for him. Probably his best trip may be seven furlongs. His dam was top-class over a mile and a half but he is all speed – after all he was champion two-year-old.”

Jockey Frankie Dettori added: “His preparation for this has been smooth and he had been going really well at home. He is blessed with so much speed but has stayed this mile – he has it all.”

“He has a wonderful pedigree and is a wonderful horse.”
