oyal Intervention carried the colours of Lord Lloyd Webber to a valuable success in the Group 3 Summer Stakes at York on Friday.

The daughter of Exceed and Excel deserved to get her head in front again following some decent efforts this term, including when fifth in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last time out.

Trained by Ed Walker, Royal Intervention made every yard of the running under Paul Hanagan and held on gamely to repel Shades Of Blue by a neck.

Walker said: “I couldn’t believe they left her alone in front- she has a lot of speed – it was a great ride. She can be tricky but Paul has done a great job.

“She has an entry in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest – it’s over six and a half furlongs which I think could really suit. She’s won a Listed and Group 3 and been placed in a Group 2, we’ll keep trying to build her pedigree and maybe look at America later in the year.”

Bred by Watership Down Stud and W S Farish, Royal Intervention is a half-sister to four ‘black type’ performers including Grade 1 Beverley D winner Gorella.

There was another good result on Friday when Al Madhar won a competitive 7f maiden at Newmarket on debut. The son of Siyouni was sold by Watership Down Stud in their Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling draft to Shadwell Estates for 200,000gns last October.
