Sulaalaat takes Doncaster prize

10 September 2015

SULAALAAT secured her first win of 2015 when taking a competitive seven furlong handicap at Doncaster’s St Leger Festival. The daughter of New Approach was bred by Watership Down Stud and sold to Angus Gold of Shadwell Estates for 180,000gns as a yearling.

Prior to this success, the pick of her efforts this season was a close up fifth in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot. Ridden by Paul Hanagan, she made every yard of the running, battling gamely to repel Caprior Bere by a short head. Hanagan said: “Sulaalaat was very tough. She was never going to let the second past.” The Brian Meehan-trained filly won at Nottingham as a juvenile and may well step back into Listed company following this success.
