Group 3 second for De Treville

12 May 2015

THE WATERSHIP Down Stud-bred De Treville secured more ‘black type’ yesterday when finishing second in the Group 3 Prix de Guiche at Chantilly.

The Andre Fabre-trained colt is a son of Oasis Dream and the stud’s star mare and three-time Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi. He was purchased as a yearling by Charlie Gordon-Watson for 850,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1.

An impressive winner in conditions company last time out, De Treville was out to stake his Classic claims. He raced keenly under Maxime Guyon and was allowed to stride on at half way.

The eventual winner, War Dispatch, quickened clear under a confident ride but De Treville stayed on gamely to keep second.

This looked a strong trial on paper with the winner now jumping to nearly the head of the market for the Prix du Jockey Club. De Treville has won or been second in all five of his starts and looks sure to improve as the season goes on.
