The Fugue rated amongst the world's best
26 January 2015
THE FUGUE was officially recognised as one of the best performers of 2014 at the prestigious Longines World Best Racehorse rankings.
Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber’s mare was given a mark of 124 following her sensational win in the Prince of Wale’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. Not only did she leave the likes of Treve, Magician and Mukhadram floundering in her wake, she also smashed the course record.
This figure of 124 meant that she was the leading older turf horse in the world over ten-furlongs with only three-year-olds Australia and The Grey Gatsby earning a higher rating over the distance.
Unfortunately, The Fugue suffered an injury in her next start at Sandown in the Eclipse Stakes which prevented her from running again. She returned to Watership Down Stud and is due to be covered by champion sire Dubawi this spring.
Trained by John Gosden The Fugue won four Group 1s earning a total of prize money haul just shy of £2million.
