Mukhayyam strikes at Newcastle

15 August 2014

MUKHAYYAM got off the mark at the second time of asking when winning a seven-furlong maiden at Newcastle this afternoon.

The son of Dark Angel was sold by Watership Down Stud for 120,000gns to Shadwell Estates at Tattersalls Book 2 last October.

Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, he stepped up considerably on his recent Newmarket debut to win gamely under Graham Lee.

He was settled in the midfield by Lee, travelling strongly and showing a professional attitude.

He struck the front at the furlong pole and stuck his neck out gallantly to beat Jolievitesse by a neck.

Lee said: “He is lovely and he will only get better as he gets older and has more racing. He is very likeable.”
